House of Creed

The House of Creed, established in 1760 by James Creed, is an authentic, luxury perfume house dedicated to the creation of highly original, artisan fragrances for men and women, made from the finest perfume ingredients the world has to offer.

The legend of the brand begins in 1760, when a pair of scented leather gloves was delivered to King George III by a new tailor’s firm in London. Queen Victoria – George III’s granddaughter – appointed Creed as the official supplier to the Royal Household. In 1854, under the patronage of Napoleon III and his Empress Eugénie, the stylish leader of European fashion, Creed House established another headquarters in Paris, France. Creed supplied most of the royalty of the day. In the newly built Paris of the Second Empire, Creed gained a reputation for impeccable tailoring and for the exclusivity of its rare and limited bespoke perfumes. The tact and discretion with which a royal, aristocratic and socially prominent clientele was treated quickly became part of Creed’s legend.

The House of Creed was founded by James Henry Creed in the same year as the young king’s accession to the throne. The fragrances, previously the preserve of royalty, have been available to the public since 1970.

Creed has been handcrafting perfumes of distinction, elegance and originality for royalty and patrons for over 260 years, and each Creed fragrance is an alchemy of the finest, rarest, natural ingredients handpicked from around the world. Rose from Bulgaria, Turkey and Morocco, Italian jasmine, Florentine iris, tuberose from India, Haitian vetiver, bourbon vanilla, bergamot from Calabria and parma violets. These are just a few of the treasures found in Creed’s laboratory. Still based in Paris with a factory in Fontainebleau, Creed makes many of its own essences using a traditional technique – a process most have now abandoned as too costly, but which sets Creed fragrances apart from some of their modern counterparts.

The high quality natural ingredients are still weighed, blended and macerated by hand. The process is labor intensive, but Creed is driven by artistry and perfection.
Since 1781, Creed has created a legacy of unparalleled fragrances built on expertise and perfection. Over the centuries, the Creed family has produced over 200 perfumes, all of which bear witness to a unique creative spirit that, along with a keen hereditary nose, has been passed down from father to son for seven generations.
